BFB 11-16, The Cal Way

54 BFB contestants remaining after BFB 9.
A third of the way through the season... 54 contestants left.

Leafy rejoins into the Losers, exactly like canon.

The 55 BFB contestants remaining after BFB 10.
Did you expect anyone else to rejoin?

This episode has a lot of canon-like plot beats, but don't be fooled. For starters, Stapy needs to replace Foldy, since she was eliminated, and Snowball replaces Flower as iance’s climber for plot progression purposes. Pie, TB, Dora, Needle, Balloony and Bomby still represent their own teams.

Death P.A.C.T gets a few more scenes this time, with Remote being lectured by Black Hole and Tree about not killing people (about the bomb in episode 7), Bottle (with Tree still stuck inside there) goes off with Pillow to do random fluff, and Pen tries to hang out with Eraser and Blocky. iance still gets their own development- Snowball still decapitates Fanny, it’s just that in this timeline it actually worked to persuade them. Match and Bubble still have their confrontation, Flower tries to make friends with Ruby, and as for Lightning he spends the whole episode looking for someone to fix Fanny. I’d give FF more scenes too, but that team is so trash that I don’t really have any ideas.

Stapy and Snowball do the confrontation Foldy and Flower had in canon, and Stapy uses his staplers to boost himself upwards in the part where Foldy would have glided towards the button. At the end, it’s just Snowball and Pie left, and, unlike canon, Snowball grabs a bunch of Stapy’s leftover staplers and throws them all towards Pie when she tries the Black Hole fling, resulting in Pie exploding again and letting Snowball get safety, and having Death P.A.C.T lose for the second time in the season.

Bottle is eliminated and nothing of value is lost.

No idea how she made it to TPOT's final 15.

The pre-intro scene might be the hardest to fix. Since Foldy is out, Eraser, instead of panicking, says “good thing Foldy is gone”, and then Stapy walks in with a “memorial for Foldy” (a piece of origami in her shape) and Eraser takes it and stomps it to the ground. Eraser raises his hand to chuck the piece of paper away and that's when the intro plays. Ruby doesn't get to show up, sadly, but that's just how it is sometimes.

This is one of the best episodes of the season, so I’m changing as little as possible. Since Bottle is eliminated and Tree is just freed automatically, Death P.A.C.T needs a new scene, so I might as well upgrade it.

Taco as Tree tries to take the lead in Death P.A.C.T, suggesting dilemmas to each of the other five members trying to see if they would prevent death or not. She asks Pie, then Pen, then Pillow- Pillow answers she would kill, and Taco points out that doesn't follow the pledge, but Black Hole and Remote notice that Tree should know that Pillow breaks the pledge constantly (Black Hole leads the discussion, Remote gives stats), blowing her cover. Pie compliments Black Hole for doing a good job, saying he's grown a lot in the art of death prevention.

Additionally, Free Food technically needs a new scene because of Foldy's absence but Foldy getting unfolded is so irrelevant to anything in canon… Just, I dunno, make Stapy sad about his mini Foldy and have him bicker with Fries.

Since iance wasn’t UFE, Match isn’t eliminated and Bubble doesn’t get her apologizing insanity, but it’s not like they do much of anything relevant there.

Team Ice Cube still loses in this universe.

Firey Junior is out. This is the last true elimination reused from canon.

It's about to get weird.

The opening scenes are focused on 8-names, Barf Bag and Spongy, so I don't need to change much— Pin has to fill in for Coiny, though. Maybe she shows relief for this season not being BFDIA instead of frustration? I'm not sure. It could be Nickel instead, maybe. It's hard to think of other people who had a really good time at BFDIA.

Bracelety absolutely refuses to let Ice Cube go in the elimination, but Four rips her from Bracelety’s hands anyways so it ultimately doesn't change how Icy gets souped, and Tiny Icy still goes to iance.

Puffball and Roboty can fill in for Bell with the dumb ad scene and the bandland teaser respectively. Bell has oddly much screentime in this episode in canon for whatever reason.

In iance, Match and Tiny Icy have a little interaction where Bubble incentivizes Match to apologize, and she gives it an awkward try before Snowball tells them to focus on the challenge.

Cake and Eggy’s argument about Loser doesn't make much sense when Loser isn't eliminated… But it also doesn't make much sense in canon either, so… They run up to Loser (currently eating chicken nuggets) and he tells them to stay above ground, because he has a plan. (Like the BFB 17 scene, but good.)

DP doesn’t need a new scene, but their canon scene sucks so much I’m changing it anyways. This one is after everyone starts digging. Remote and Pen grab shovels, but Black Hole complains that a) digging straight downwards is dangerous and b) they’re forgetting something— Pie compliments BH for having a good memory, and after that the scenes about getting Pillow back don’t change.

Nothing else in BFB 13 needs to change, getting us smoothly to-

Ah, possibly the most beloved BFB episode. There's no Cake at Stake right now, we just pick up from where we left off.

iance, FF and DP don’t need any changes before the lava flood (Match being in iance honestly just adds to the GB avoidance), and we can just say BEEP accidentally lets Roboty fall and die during the Cloudy scene.

Bracelety being in the inverted planet instead of Gelatin doesn’t really change anything there, so the lava flood still ends up happening. Naily can have the line about dark humor. One slight difference happens when they try to run away: Gelatin isn’t there to say that there’s not enough room… but hear me out: Bracelety can sense Icy complaining about GB, and tries to go to their general direction— Barf Bag tries to hold Bracelety, but she still gets agitated enough to throw Naily off-balance, so we still have Bomby’s explosion launch her to the BEEP tunnel. (BEEP is quite literally fried if they don't get Naily.)

Add a scene of the Losers arguing about whether staying on the surface is a good idea or not, and then Loser spots ABNTT’s emerald and hands it to Four. He gets some praise from a few team members (Eggy, Firey, Leafy), but some of them aren’t as impressed (Pin, Cake, Needle).

After this, nothing about the episode needs to change! Match being in iance is really not relevant during the chase, and BEEP and 8-names have the same surviving members as in canon. Maybe add a few scenes of TD and Dora trying and failing to dig down in the background, and make Barf Bag look less like an idiot for not warning people fast enough, but other than that the episode is good.

Oh. Right. Coiny. Eliminating this guy early is kind of a pain but I just don't like him so I will keep working around it.

Loser needs to be the one to go into the factory with Cake. Let’s just assume that Loser is lava-proof like Winner is in TPOT 14. Alternatively, you could just have Loser get killed, it surprisingly doesn’t change BFB 15 at all. After that everything should work, and 8-names should lose.

Gelatin isn’t here to reference “there’s not enough room up here” so I dunno what to put on the intro scene. Maybe Bracelety trying to make a boat so she can see Icy, and Flower throws her off because she’s still waiting on that yacht.

Most of the changes I made were to dead characters, and this is a Good Episode, so I won’t change much.

SAW IS ELIMINATED. I don’t care how much of a joke character Dora is (by the way, she’s possibly the best one of them), Saw’s eight gimmick sucks and she doesn’t even have anything going on other than that. Dora’s happy thought is devouring Dream Island.

Everything is just a little wrong, except for A Better Name Than That. Because they're peak.

One scene that I am forced to change is the Puffball vs Spongy fight, since she doesn’t have Bell to use. Let’s say Yellow Face got a lava proof boat from his ads dimension and Puffball gets her own cannon from him to deal with Spongy.

During the final run, if Loser dies in GB’s factory the episode doesn’t really change- we just go straight to Flower and Naily racing each other and skip the joke about Needle carrying Loser (Coiny). Nothing else really changes so it’s time for TIC to “lose” and start-

Coiny slowly breaks his way out of his jawbreaker- It’s not a special Loser ability, Taco did it too. Coiny and Liy incentivize the others to escape, Spongy is eliminated, Two conveniently shows up at the exact same time, Spongy and Liy, (not Loser, who isn't in the EXIT), manage to escape, and the episode happens pretty much the exact same way as it does in canon— not because I like it or anything, but because I am chaining myself to the exact structure as canon, so I need to have the split happen somehow…

Personally, I’d have BFB continue until the final 47 or something, then Two shows up, lets Winner join, and the viewers vote one more player in so the game can have 49 players go into 7 teams of 7. But that’s a what if for another day.

Anyway, Gelatin can get some of his iconic canon lines in the EXIT, I don’t really care enough to give more specific pointers. At the end of the day, Liy and Spongy manage to get out of the EXIT, and the show splits.

I’ll just recap the changes between canon’s split and my split:

EXIT:

BFBFB:

TPOT:

(Here we go)
Basketball, Black Hole, Bottle and Golf Ball,
Snowball, Tennis Ball, Pillow and Puffball,
Coiny and Bomby and Cloudy and Pie,
Book and Cake and Donut and Fries,
Eggy, Fanny, Grassy and Barf Bag,
Ice Cube, Lightning, Gaty and Price Tag[1],
Winner[1], Foldy, Saw, TV,
Nickel and Needle and Naily and Tree,
Remote, Marker, Yellow Face, Clock,
Pen, and Pin, Eraser and Rocky,
Teardrop[2], Bell, Robot Flower,
Keep winning cake and you'll get Two's Power…

[1]: Price Tag and Winner will join in TPOT 1.

[2]: Teardrop is there in TPOT 1 instead of joining in TPOT 2. Who actually joins in TPOT 2? Just wait and see.

We've done too much damage? Oh you've seen nothing yet!

I really don't like most of the canon post-split but it's so comedy focused that my notes wouldn't really paint a good picture of a fix, so I'll just give some general hints.

Firstly, this should be more, so much more like post-hiatus BFDIA. The episodes should have a longer development cycle (around 2 months) and give the characters more room to do things, and actually be funny. This does have a noticeable side effect: the season’s 14 episodes would last from May 2020 to July 2022. That'd mean that TPOT 1 would be out around BFB 21, and BFB only ends between TPOT 2 and TPOT 3. This is a perfectly manageable timeline, and doesn't stop my replacement for the Teardrop join.

The X-colored team would be Firey, Flower, Spongy, Taco, Woody, Barf Bag and Yellow Face, while the 4-colored team would have Dora, Blocky, Leafy, Lollipop, Ruby, Grassy and Rocky. This isn't exactly ideal— I'd have preferred Blocky and Woody on the same team, and Flower and Ruby on the same team… Maybe we could have Four scrap the color-based teams once he realizes that there's not a single blue contestant left? If I get free reign with the teams, I think this would make the most sense:

Team 1 (Have Cots)

Team 2 (Have Nots)

The 14 BFB contestants remaining after BFB 17.
The post-split teams. I'm not going to specify the entire elimination order, so this is the only render you get.

As for character dynamics and arcs in post split, we have:

Fodder

This is Rocky and Grassy and, to a lesser extent, Dora and Yellow Face.

Rocky and Grassy really don't have much going on— Grassy could potentially have a dynamic with Blocky similar to Grassy and Snowball in canon TPOT 8+, but other than that I'm drawing blanks.

Dora and Yellow Face are joke characters, so they'd fit like a glove in post split, but they don't have enough character dynamics to keep them going over other characters. However, I would like to see a mini arc about Yellow and Purple Faces interacting and YF suffering the consequences of being a bigot.

Mid Boots

This comprises Spongy, Taco, Firey Leafy, and Blocky.

Spongy would have his revenge arc end properly, instead of whatever the hell post-split “tried”, so he could have a chance to redeem himself to the audience. Taco would be back to her pre-split characterization of a fearless leader that doesn't quite think things through, instead of a responsible team mom (why the hell did post-split do that to my babyyyy), a role that should have fit Barf Bag like a glove. It would be nice if she had a small arc about playing stuff a little less risky.

Firey and Leafy are the only things Post-Split didn't do completely dirty, they can stay.

And Blocky can have a friendship with Grassy before having his friendship with Woody. I do like the concept of the canon Blocky-Woody arc, it just. Needed a lot more setup, and payoff, and literally everything else.

Late Gamers

This is Barf Bag, Lollipop, Flower, Ruby and Woody.

Barf Bag would be a responsible team mom while Lollipop is a more rebellious presence, giving Leafy’s team an immediate conflict engine. On top of that, she could be pretty nice for Spongy’s redemption arc and for helping Taco through her turmoil.

Lollipop probably should have a proper arc about making friends with Taco or Ruby, instead of it just randomly happening with Gelatin of all people. She would still be pompous and fancy and serious, though.

Woody becoming more brave in his final season should have been peak, and yet post-split fumbled it so badly… Just. Give Woody’s arc more time to get fleshed out, instead of him doing two sudden 180 degree turns in a season.

Flower and Ruby would become friends, since neither has any other friends in post-split. Ruby would easily fill in for Gelatin's silly antics, and you can still have Flower become nicer and eventually win the season.

I do realize this last section is me just saying “If this was bad, then don't do it” but I really don't know how to fix everything wrong with the split. At least TPOT is good.
